Allegra Harrison

Straight into description

Allegra Harrison is an experienced social work practitioner and Solution Focused trainer in the Essex Solution Focused Centre (link?) (ESFC), which sits within Essex County Council Children's Social Care. The ESFC specialises in offering bespoke SF training that is contextualised within statutory organisations and/or roles which by nature must also uphold other duties and responsibilities (e.g. social care, education, mental health, hospitals). The ESFC is also committed to contributing to the wider field of research and practice in the Solution Focused community.

Ockham's Razor is very much alive and present in this  experimentation of a quicker way of entering into solution focused conversations.   As solution focused trainers and practitioners we at ESFC have noticed that obtaining a clear best hope, although incredibly useful and impactful when done well, can often also be a stumbling block, especially for newer learners, when it proves to be less straightforward than hoped. Therefore we've been experimenting with an additional/alternative method of moving into description of the desired outcome, guided by and holding true to the design created by the original founders, Steve & Insoo.   In our workshop this ongoing 'experiment' will be presented in more detail along with our very promising early results and outcomes. You'll also be invited to contribute to this research effort and trial this way of working for yourselves.

Participants can expect to come away with :

  • Awareness and understanding of an experimental way of entering into detailed description conversations being trialled by the Essex Solution Focused Centre with children, parents and families open to Essex Social Care.
  • The outcomes and results thus far, including a comparative analysis in relation to traditional Best Hopes conversations.
  • An opportunity to also be involved in this 'controlled experiment,' contributing to research in the solution focused community.
  • A potential alternative structure for moving into detailed Solution Focused description of desired outcome(s)
