Hope and Possibilities in Life - Solution Focus in suicide prevention

Michele Orr has been a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for 15 years and leader in adult community mental health throughout 35 years of working in public mental health. She is also a Solution Focused clinical supervisor and has trained numerous mental health teams and senior health professionals in the SF approach. She enriches her Solution Focused practice through intermittent work in a Crisis Assessment Teams. She has presented at various conferences including the National Suicide Prevention Conference (Australia), National Mental Health Nurse Conference (Australia) and Australasian Solution Focused Association conferences.

Michele is passionate about promoting people’s mental health and wellbeing using the Solution Focused approach through training, supervision and therapy.

This session will provide a brief description of the development and use of SF in two Australian public mental health teams, who see people that have experienced thoughts of suicide or survived an attempt.

Participants attending this session can hope to gain An understanding of:

  • what is possible doing more with less, using SF in suicide prevention
  • the hope and possibilities co-constructed when using SF with someone experiencing thoughts of suicide
