In this workshop, we will discuss our interconnecting strands of research on the potential of training school staff and school Mental Health Support Teams in solution focused practice (SFP); aiming to help staff to ‘do more with less’ whilst also improving morale and job satisfaction.   Our workshop will include the following:

  • Our Barts charity funded research project to co-design and pilot a whole-school solution focused programme, to promote a positive school culture, improve behaviour, wellbeing and staff job satisfaction.
  • Discussion around implementing and evaluating a whole-school solution focused programme.   Producing a training manual and resources for school staff training in SFP.
  • Training school Mental Health Support Team practitioners in SFP for use in individual student counselling.

The workshop will be a mix of presentation and interactive activities. Participants will gain an awareness of research being undertaken in the field of:

  • Training school staff and Mental Health Support Teams working with children and young people in SFP
  • Developing school staff training and video resources

Participants will have opportunities to discuss the impact of training professionals in SFP on staff job satisfaction, morale, and organisational productivity.
